Mr. Mao with The Silver Balls
8-11-19
I am amazed after last evening’s incredible performance by Mr. Mao on the
pinball machine. Early on, he scored 50,464,000 topping my highest score of 44
million, but before he left, he got on the board with a 92,929,000 score! I had
so much fun watching him and whopping it up. MJR will grace the champion list.
It’s not close to the 279 million top score but I think it’s in the top four.
The highest I could get last evening was 22 million. Mr. Mao wanted to come
over Friday but my wife had just got back from the hospital and was tired. I
asked Leona to invite him back and he came last evening bringing a roast duck
and bottle of Johnny Walker Black. He said my tequila was too sweet. We each
had a few glasses and went to the patio to play; Leona stayed mostly in the
living room but she came back to see what the commotion was. Mr. Mao said that,
years ago, he had played two pins in Taiwan and so he was used to it.
I can’t get over how easily Mr. Mao got two
high scores on pinball that Sunday evening. He made some comments about how pinball
machines are not popular in Taiwan because they are too easy to win. Mr. Mao is
a drinking man. He likes his fun and games, though he is a successful businessman and veteran. Many a night of his has been spent in karaoke clubs and
brothels, partying and playing. Of course he must be good at games. Leona said
at least he is not a gambler; if that were so, all bets are off. I feel a
little weird his encouraging me to play better; it sounds like the machine talking.
I have played the pin perhaps a dozen sessions, six or seven games at a time,
and have no plans to get obsessed with it. I am ashamed of myself when I get
angry after losing a ball, but then I grin it off; it’s just a game, and it’s
all mine! Nya-ha-ha!
